Messums West SYMPOSIUM: Extreme Climate: Extreme Architecture

News — 09 Sept 2026

After a summer of extreme temperatures, it seems timely to consider how architecture can adapt to our rapidly changing climate.

Messums West 6th Annual Architecture Symposium, taking place on Saturday 3rd October 2026, will continue to celebrate innovative thinking in construction and design, and the role of architecture to problem-solve in society today. This year the focus will be on ‘Extreme Climate: Extreme Architecture’ looking at extraordinary examples of building construction together with architecture in extreme landscapes where aesthetics meets the challenges of functionality caused by the climate and our environment.

A series of talks and discussions will be presented by leading architects from around the world who are experts within this field. The focus will range from innovative designs for mobile Antarctic facilities, where designs are tailored to withstand extreme conditions to architectural design for the lunar environment which focuses on creating structures that are not only functional but also sustainable, using lunar regolith as the building material.

Michael Stiff will be jointly chairing the symposium alongside Peter Clegg and it promises to be a fascinating day.

The symposium takes place at Messums West, Tisbury, Wiltshire and tickets and the full programme are available here.
